Why banks no longer send texts or emails with links?

Have you ever wondered why banks like PNB warn you not to click on links in texts or emails? Read on to learn more.

As more people shift to digital banking, the risk of cybersecurity threats like phishing has increased. Scammers trick people into divulging personal and financial information, leading to account takeovers and unauthorized transactions.

To protect customers, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) issued a directive in 2022 (Memorandum M-2022-015), which requires banks to follow these security measures:

  1. No clickable links in emails or SMS sent to customers.
  2. Regular notifications about any changes to your mobile number, email address, or account credentials.
  3. Mandatory alerts for large transactions, a delay before activating new security codes, and a waiting period before making key changes to your account.
  4. Personalized OTP messages for important activities like registering devices, sending funds, or updating profile settings.

These measures are designed to keep you safe from phishing and other cybersecurity threats. PNB is committed to help you #PNBeCybersafe.
